Jeep is currently owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles but has a long history including Willys, WWII, and now classy and hardy crossovers, 4x4's, SUV sport utility vehicles, and off-road vehicles including Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee (luxury model), Renegade and Compass. Chrysler bought Jeep from AMC in 1987. Originally "jeep" was used as slang for new recruits and vehicles in the U.S. Army, but then morphed into the name for the actual Jeep being used in WWII. Jeep is one of the oldest 4WD vehicles in automobile history. With its tough and resilient history and unique look, the Jeep today has become a very popular vehicle for drivers in the U.S.
